Description
LumiScan Calibration is an application for converting 2D image coordinates into corresponding 3D coordinates on a calibrated plane. This allows position information detected in camera images to be mapped to real-world coordinates, for example for robotic bin picking, object placement, and similar automation tasks.
The conversion is based on calibration data provided as a TIFF file. The application uses configurable transformation modules to map image coordinates to 3D coordinates and supports different interpolation methods for determining values between calibrated points.
LumiScan Calibration runs on ctrlX OS (ctrlX CORE or ctrlX IPC), where it is installed from the App Store, and on a PC with Windows 11 or Ubuntu 24.04. The application is configured using JSON settings files, while the transformation functions, input coordinates, output coordinates, and status information are accessed through the Data Layer: the ctrlX Data Layer on ctrlX OS, LumiScan Keryx on a PC.
What is the same for every LumiScan app - how addresses are built, the handshake, execute and stream call patterns, status codes, settings and tools - is described in the LumiScan Keryx manual. This manual covers only what is specific to LumiScan Calibration; the pages of this manual describe its own nodes.
A module converts the points a program writes, on request: through a ready/request handshake, or with a single write to an execute method. From v2.1.0, a module can also convert a stream of points as they arrive (experimental): the points of a PLC array, or the positions in another LumiScan application’s result, such as the objects AI Object Matching finds on a camera’s image stream. See Transforming a Stream (Experimental).
LumiScan Cockpit does not show LumiScan Calibration: a module produces coordinates, not an image.
