# ctrlX Data Layer and LumiScan Keryx

On ctrlX OS the LumiScan apps use the **ctrlX Data Layer** of ctrlX OS. On a PC with Windows 11 or Ubuntu 24.04 they use **LumiScan Keryx**, the Data Layer of HD Vision Systems, which offers the same interface.

## The same on both

- **Node addresses**, for example `hdvisionsystems/lumiscan-cam-driver/camera1/control/connect-camera/request`. See [Addresses and Modules](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/addresses.html).
- **Node types**: bool, integers, floating point numbers, strings, arrays, and FlatBuffers for results and images.
- **Call patterns**: [handshake](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/handshake.html), [execute methods](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/execute.html) and [streams](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/streams.html).
- **Module status codes** on `control/status/code`. See [Status Codes and Results](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/status-codes.html).

A program built on these works on both Data Layers. Never translate a node address between them.

## What differs

| | ctrlX Data Layer (ctrlX OS) | LumiScan Keryx (PC) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Provided by | ctrlX OS | The broker of **LumiScan Keryx**. An app starts it when none is running. See [LumiScan Keryx on a PC](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/keryx.html) |
| Default address | managed by ctrlX OS | `tcp://127.0.0.1:5555`, on this PC only |
| Looking at the nodes by hand | the ctrlX OS web interface | the Keryx page `http://127.0.0.1:7555/`, **LumiScan Keryx Utilities** (Windows) and `krxclient`. See [Tools](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/tools.html) |
| Connecting a PLC | ctrlX PLC on the same device | the [OPC UA Connector](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/opc-ua.html) |
| Result of a method call | `DL_OK`, `DL_INVALID_VALUE`, … | `Ok`, `Rejected`, … See [Results of a method call](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/status-codes.html#method-results) |
| Settings files of an app | uploaded through the ctrlX web interface or WebDAV, see the app’s manual | ordinary files on the PC, see [Where the files are](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-keryx/1.0.0/keryx.html#files) |
| Licence | See [LumiScan Licensing](https://docs.hdvisionsystems.com/en/lumiscan-licensing/1.0.4/index.html): on ctrlX OS a ctrlX licence, on a PC the LumiScan Key | |

## Product manuals

The product manuals say which Data Layer they mean with the words **ctrlX Data Layer** and **LumiScan Keryx**. Where they write only "Data Layer", the statement holds for both.
